Minutes of the Regular Public Meeting of Council held on Monday, February 15th, 2021 in Council Chambers.

Minutes:                     Mayor Howell asked if there were any errors or omissions to the Minutes of the Regular Public Council Meeting held on January 25th, 2021 which had been circulated to all members.

Business

Arising:                      Rink

Members discussed several options with regards to a new skating rink; either rebuilding in the same location provided the current rink was scrapped and dug up and a new foundation laid with proper rock and proper drainage to alleviate the water problem there or moving it to a different location. Suggestions for a new location were:

- Property formerly known as Baird’s Property on Noggin Cove Road,

- Property on opposite side of the road from the Interpretation Center,

- The current Ball Field behind the school,

- Doyle’s Pond

Members were in agreement to table this issue until the middle of March; then, members will pick the sites to have an Engineer do a cost analysis on to determine the cheapest and best route to proceed.

Finance:                     Collections Report

The Collections Report for January was presented to and reviewed by members. Collection of arrears has been progressing very well to date.

 

Public Works:           Water Report

The Water Report from Government Services from testing on February 2nd, 2021 was presented to and reviewed by members. Water Report was satisfactory.

 

                                    Chlorine Readings

Chlorine Readings for January was presented to and reviewed by members. Readings were all within the guidelines.

 

Monthly Usage and Flow Data

The Monthly Water Usage and Flow Data reports were presented to and reviewed by members. The average water usage was 108,673 gallons per day.

 

Screen Cleaning

Screens at the Pond and Chlorination Chambers were cleaned on February 5th, 2021. Pictures were presented to and reviewed by members.

 

Clean & Safe Drinking Water Workshop

The Clean and Safe Drinking Water Workshop scheduled for March 2021 has been cancelled due to the COVID variant and current health restrictions.

 

Operator of the year

Nominations for the Operator of the Year Award are being accepted until March 12, 2021.

 

Fire Dept.                   Traffic Control Flashlights

Recreation:                Dehumidifier

Members discussed the recent mold issue in the Rec. Center basement. The issue has been taken care of and the purchase of a dehumidifier was discussed to alleviate future issues. Members were in agreement to check prices on a Humidex that would exhaust through the wall and bring the results back to the next meeting for further discussion.
